Is dental treatment in Turkey safe? Five things to check before you book

Turkey has excellent dentists and it also has clinics that cut corners. The country is not the risk. The clinic you choose is. These five checks take an afternoon and they remove most of the bad options.

1. The price must not change when you arrive

The most common complaint from patients is a bill that is higher than the quote. Ask for a written quote that lists each item: the number of teeth, the materials, scans, temporary teeth, anaesthesia, hotel and transfers. If a clinic will only give you a single round number, treat that as a warning.

2. You should know who will treat you

A careful clinic tells you the name of the dentist or surgeon, their specialty and where they qualified. Be cautious with phrases like "our expert team" when nobody is named. In Turkey, a clinic that treats international patients needs an international health tourism authorisation from the Ministry of Health. You can ask to see it.

3. Reviews should look real

Nobody has only perfect reviews. Read Google, Trustpilot and patient forums, and read the negative reviews first. Look at how the clinic answers them. A clinic that replies calmly and offers a fix is a better sign than a wall of five stars. If a review platform has removed a clinic's rating for breaking its rules, take that seriously.

4. There must be an aftercare plan

You will be back home within days. Ask what happens if something goes wrong after that: who you contact, how fast they answer, whether a correction is free, and who pays for the flight if you must return. Get the answer in writing.

5. Nobody should rush you

A deposit deadline of "today only" is a sales tactic. A good clinic gives you time to think, answers your questions more than once, and is willing to tell you when a treatment is not right for you.

How Smilenzo fits in

Smilenzo is a matching service, not a clinic. The checks we ask a partner clinic to pass, covering licensing, named practitioners, quoting and aftercare, are listed on our verification page.

This guide is general information, not medical advice. Decisions about your treatment are between you and the clinic that examines you.

Tell us what you're considering and we'll come back with matched clinics and an initial estimate.
